Local Information

Iași is the most important political, economic and cultural centre of the province of Moldavia as well as one of the oldest cities in Romania. Located in the northeaster part of the country, Iași was for many centuries the crossing point of the most important commercial routes linking Poland, Hungary, Russia and Constantinople.

Over more than 500 years, since its first attestation in 1408,history and culture have moulded the city's unique character.The city prides itself with establishing the first Romanian university. Today, Iași is home to five universities.

The city provides various attractions, like the largest botanical garden in Romania which spans an area of almost 80ha, the Palace of Culture considered the city symbol building hosting 4 permanently opened museums and various temporary exhibitions and one of the most appreciated operas in Romania, opening the season typically in mid-September hosted by a beautiful, recently renovated concert hall. Many other touristic objectives like historical buildings or sights are available in the city.

The organizer of EDCC 2018, Faculty of Computer Science within Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, is the first faculty in Computer Science of a non-technical university in Romania, has over 2000 students and more then 50 member academic staff, and it offers a good background for Computer Science as well as a wide range of exciting computing modules with up-to-date information technologies.
